Why Estate Planning is Important

Estate planning is not just for the wealthy; it is crucial for anyone who wants to ensure their assets are managed and distributed according to their wishes. We often remark that we believe estate planning is one of the greatest gifts you can give your beneficiaries. It allows you to leave them with less stress and uncertainty, and more time to celebrate your life.

Estate planning is essential for protecting your assets, ensuring your wishes are honored, and providing for your loved ones after your passing. At Nelson Law, we offer personalized estate planning services tailored to your specific circumstances and goals. Our estate planning attorney, Summer Nelson, will guide you through every step of the process while providing personalized advice and creative solutions. Whether you have a simple estate or a complex financial situation, we are here to help you create a comprehensive plan that provides you and your family with peace of mind.

Proper Estate Planning Can Help:

Avoid Probate Court

Streamline the transfer of assets to your beneficiaries without the delays and costs of probate, saving your heirs significant time and money.

Protect Beneficiaries

Ensure that your assets are managed responsibly, particularly for minor children or beneficiaries with special needs.

Healthcare Decisions

Make your healthcare preferences known and appoint someone to make medical decisions for you if you become incapacitated.

Estate Planning Process

Our office is proud to offer a streamlined, personal, and customizable estate planning process. You will work directly with your attorney throughout this process, ensuring your needs are understood, your questions are answered, and your goals are accomplished.

  1. Legacy Planning

    Session

The first step in the estate planning process is a personalized Legacy Planning Session. During this session, you will:
    1. Solidify what your goals are for your estate.
    2. Determine which document, or documents, will best serve your estate planning needs.
    3. Collect preliminary information about your estate.

2. Information Collection

Once you have completed your Legacy Planning Session, you will be asked to collect information regarding your estate and your wishes. Some of the information required at this time may include nominating a personal representative, determining how you want your assets divided, or solidifying your healthcare wishes. We recognize that these decisions require careful consideration, so we welcome you to take as much time as you need during this step!

3. Drafting

Once we have worked together to collect the necessary information, our office will begin our first round of drafting. We offer unlimited revisions to these drafts so that you are able to fine-tune your estate plan as much as you would like.

4. Signing

Most estate planning documents need to be signed, witnessed, and notarized. We offer notary services and will facilitate your signing meeting in our office when required.
